Best Japanese Kaiseki Cuisine In Shanghai: Tsuru

TSURU_01

Inside the Shangri-La Hotel JingAn, there is Tsuru: a Kaiseki-inspired Japanese restaurant.

Honestly, I could talk about Tsuru for hours because it is one of my go-to Japanese restaurants that date back to our house-hunting trip in Shanghai, probably a year or so ago, when we all stayed as guests at the Shangri-La.

The restaurant is surely very elegant and inspired by the traditions of Japan. You can whether choose to seat at the sake bar, the restaurant area, the beautiful sushi and sashimi bar and/or at one of the 2 VIP rooms for a more intimate experience.

When I go to Tsuru for lunch, I usually seat at the sushi bar so I can watch the chef closely while he works on his magic behind the counter – a treasure that I keep all to myself in my Shanghai favorites. Below is a sample of the set menu dishes I had on that day. Do not forget to book in advance, even for lunch, because the restaurant is very popular.
