Hellas House Grand Opening Night In Shanghai

Last week’s grand opening night at Hellas House served as an eye opener to all things Greek – in style!

Outstanding hospitality, authentic food, tasteful interiors, beautiful art but, most importantly, passionate people! I’ve always been a huge fan of Greek culture and cuisine and this event surely served as the tipping point for me to start planning my next vacation to this beautiful and exotic country of Greece, hopefully, sooner than later!

Thanks to Sophia and Pavlos Kontomichalos, the husband-and-wife duo and owners of Hellas House, I was invited to attend this impressive new hub and cultural center dedicated to showcasing the very best of Greek culture, hospitality, gastronomy and tourism that just opened in our beautiful city of Shanghai.

The space is seriously stunning and I was very impressed by the refurbished architecture and interior decor. Situated on a five-level 1936 Shanghai villa in JingAn, an upscale area in downtown Shanghai, the mansion surely reflects the Greek influences and traditions that are so important to the Kontomichalos, which is made up of elegant hallways and unique rooms featuring Hellenic art, an open Elaion Kitchen, a Wine Cellar named Dionysus offering a large selection of Greek regional wines and the Eros Garden, a lovely outdoor space with a beautiful landscape and pool designed for sophisticate gatherings and events.
Also, as part of the owners strategy in connecting both Greece and China businesses, Hellas House has brought in some of the best Greek products and services to Shanghai local’s and sophisticated Chinese including My Odyssey Travel, a luxury travel agency providing bespoke travel to Greece and Europe; Erosantorini, a year-round private estate on Santorini island; Elaion, an olive oil supplier; Tselepos, a wine supplier; Milos, serving authentic Greek food; Amphora, an import trading company; and How, a “retail concept store” that features natural Greek products including honey, olive oil, wines and cosmetics.

Also in attendance was Greece’s Minister of Tourism, Elena Kountoura, the Ambassador of Greece to China Leonidas Rokanas, Shanghai’s Deputy Head of Tourism Weng Huahian and Secretary General of Shanghai’s tourism office Cheng Meihong, and others. Greece’s Minister of Tourism, Elena Kountoura.
